TELLING STORIES THROUGH TYPE AND MOTION

Typography is more than just readable shapes on a page or screen – it carries mood, personality and emotion. Monotype is behind many of the world’s most recognizable fonts, helping brands bring their stories to life.

Through video and animation, I had the opportunity to help Monotype tell their story – connecting with audiences, promoting new releases and documenting their creative process.

Helvetica Now modernized the classic typeface, offering three optical sizes – Micro, Text and Display – along with an alternate glyph set. The launch video used rhythmic type animation to showcase its versatility. It was featured on the font’s homepage, shared across social medi, and even highlighted in Fast Company. The campaign earned eight creative awards, including Gold at the ProMax and Hatch Awards and a Bronze Telly.

Helvetica Now Variable took adaptability even further, allowing for seamless use across different applications and platforms. To highlight its flexibility, this launch video demonstrated its range in motion. A limited-edition poster, featuring a QR code linking to the video, provided a tangible way to experience the design in action.

As part of a brand refresh, Helvetica Now became Monotype’s official brand font, with subtle refinements. Pulling from its expansive glyph set, Helvetica Now for Monotype gives it a more welcoming quality while maintaining the overall look and feel of classic Helvetica. This video introduced the font and served as a guide for the Monotype team.

Brand Talks events bring together designers, marketers and branding professionals from around the world to explore trends, strategies and inspiration.

The animation transitioned seamlessly between these letterforms, “diving” in and out of them to create an immersive journey.

Creating the event’s visual identity started with the logo lockup. Each letter became a container for a different surface, environment or industry.

The animated logo kicked off each event and was used across digital ads and printed signage.

Toyota Type is an integral part of the iconic automotive brand’s visual identity. Saatchi & Saatchi. Saatch & Saatchi worked with Monotype to create the approachable, human and highly technical bespoke typeface. Through animated vignettes, the video brings to life the creative decisions behind some of the typeface’s most distinctive letterforms.
